Node-RED

Bridging the gap with flow-based logic

Industrial networks, Infinite telemetry and cloud applications, connected through Node-RED.

From Infinite field devices to Node-RED

Infinite Informatics connects field telemetry to industrial automation and business applications. Our ADS-300, ADS-700 and SCOM-100 are compatible with Node-RED integration, bringing measurements and equipment status into visual flows for processing, monitoring and onward delivery.

One integration environment. Three Infinite device families.

Field measurements and equipment status → Node-RED → industrial systems and cloud services

Industrial protocol connectivity at the centre

Bridge operational technology (OT) and information technology (IT). Node-RED links industrial equipment, legacy assets and modern APIs in one flow. Receive MQTT telemetry, map values to OPC UA variables, exchange data with PLCs and SCADA systems, and route selected measurements to cloud applications.

  • Industrial networks: OPC UA, Modbus TCP/RTU and BACnet, with suitable nodes or gateways for EtherNet/IP and PROFINET installations.
  • Messaging: MQTT and other messaging services through the appropriate connectors.
  • Web and enterprise systems: HTTP/HTTPS REST APIs, WebSockets, TCP/UDP and database connections.

The selected nodes, gateways and device firmware determine the protocols and functions available for each installation. Node-RED runs on an edge gateway, server or cloud host and connects to the Infinite devices.

MQTT to OPC UA, with cloud integration

Use the same telemetry in the control room and in cloud analytics. A Node-RED flow can subscribe to an MQTT broker, decode the payload, apply scaling and validation, then expose selected values through an OPC UA server or write them to an existing OPC UA server.

One flow, multiple destinations

Filter events and normalize measurements before sending them onward. Route data to AWS IoT Core or Azure IoT Hub using configured connections, and send structured records to Google BigQuery for historical analysis. Cloud authentication, payload mapping and destination configuration form part of each integration.

Node-RED provides a browser-based editor where you connect nodes to define how data moves and what happens next. Its event-driven Node.js runtime supports deployment at the edge or on a server. Build protocol routing, transformations and conditional alarms in a visual workspace, with JavaScript functions available when custom logic is needed.

Measurements and device status in context

Build dashboards that show current readings, historical trends and equipment status. The supplied Infinite example brings ADS-300 temperature and battery measurements into a common operational view. Flows can also apply thresholds and deliver alarms to the systems used by your team.

AI image recognition in the same workflow

Connect image inputs to AI analysis through a Node-RED flow. The example below shows a view of Big Ben and Westminster alongside a question about road traffic and the AI-generated response.

Connect field applications to industrial operations

  • Water resources: bring level, pressure and flow measurements into SCADA and reporting systems.
  • Agriculture and irrigation: combine remote sensor readings with operational rules and dashboards.
  • Industrial telemetry: connect equipment status, measurements and alarms across protocol boundaries.
  • Smart buildings and infrastructure: bring field data into supervisory systems through suitable industrial connectors.
  • Cloud analytics: prepare consistent records for storage, reporting and analysis across sites.

The connected sensors, device configuration and selected integration determine the measurements and remote functions available for ADS-300, ADS-700 and SCOM-100 deployments.

Built for an open integration ecosystem

Originally created by IBM and now part of the OpenJS Foundation, Node-RED is an open-source tool for low-code, event-driven applications. Its node ecosystem connects hardware, APIs and services, helping teams extend an installation around the systems they already use.
